La Leche League of Chico

Helping Moms and Babies who Want to Breastfeed

La leche League International is a nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to helping women who wish to breastfeed.

Welcome!

Who comes to LLL Meetings? Nursing moms and women who are pregnant.

Who else can come? Babies (of course!), well children, and female support-people (sisters, grandmas, best friends).

LLL values the special role daddies have in supporting a mom and baby's breastfeeding relationship, and we occasionally have specific meetings that are open to couples and families; however, in the interest of all moms feeling comfortable talking about nursing and nursing in public (many for the first time), our regular monthly meetings are for women.

La Leche League International: About Us

La Leche League was created in 1957 by 7 women. "Mother-to-mother support" was the basic premise LLL was built upon, so Leaders are women who have breastfed their own children, and gone on to receive further training to help other mothers nurse. Today there are groups in over 60 countries.

La Leche League of Chico holds support meetings, has a lending library filled with books on topics like pregnancy, breastfeeding, parenting, and more, and Leaders provide phone support, and in some cases, home-visits. All of this is provided on a volunteer basis.

There is an available membership, which helps support not only La Leche League's International mission, but it also supports our local group. Members receive a bi-monthly journal, discounts on merchandise sold through LLLI, and the joy of knowing they are helping moms and babies everywhere.
